shout outs of love to ozan
some of you may have met my friend grumpalita aka the turkish fox aka ozan and if you've met her you know all about her beauty and kind spirit and great eyes and perfect funny statements and humungous beautiful heart.
i just got an update from ozan's loving and lovely husband brian that ozan developed a fever of 102 on tuesday and an infection which was tranferred to olive, her baby that wasn't yet born yet, and finally after trying for a long time she gave birth via c-section.
ozan is in a chemical coma right now. they're going to try to bring her out of it this weekend. olive was deprived of oxygen for some of the delivery, but should be fine. they're both in the icu now.
i'm getting my information from brian and also from my mom, who's a prenatal/neonatal nurse and who filled me in on what a chemical coma meant and how olive was probably totally fine even with the oxygen deprivation and that ozan would be fine.
please keep her and olive in your thoughts and prayers. ozan is one of my very best friends and i love her so much and sometimes it feels like the love i have for her will make my heart explode a little bit. and i already feel that way about olive because she belongs to ozan and brian.
so please keep them in your thoughts. say a little prayer for them, even in you only believe in water sprites or rocks that tell you riddles or big bang theories. just say a little prayer for all of them.

Ozan is awesome, I hope this works out okay.
my mom, who was a former midwife herself, was mad at the midwife for not bringing ozan to the hospital within 24 hours of her water breaking. my mom gets so mad about midwives now. i am not allowed to ever have a midwife if and when i get knocked up, because if i do my mom will kick my ass.
this sucks, are you still going to go visit her? it is good her hubby was around, wasn't he supposed to be at some school trip?
Oh that's a scary story. I hope all works out well. I'm glad your mom was giving you reassuring ideas, though.
I was deprived on oxygen at birth for a while too. I was a lazy breather.
yeah, brian decided not to go on the trip, i think, because olive was born later than they thought. and i was planning on going in late spring now or early summer, when they were both more fun, but now, maybe i'll go see them sooner? i don't know.
and i should say that maybe the midwife did everything perfectly right--that last post sounds like i'm trying to assign blame. i was just freaked.
and wendy, it is very funny to think of you as a lazy breather (i think it's just that word lazy). look at how adorable and smart you turned out to be, even with the lack of O2 at birth!

I hope they are both able to go home soon, safe and sound.

I'll put them on the prayer list at St. Mark's Lutheran in Coral Gables. What is/are their last name(s)? (It is a shock to be reminded what a tough, dangerous business childbirth still can be.) Aunt Kathy.

I was talking to Maggie the other day about Bella's birth, and she said she doesn't blame the midwife... But Bella's dad does.
